Updates regarding ISG 2012

We are pleased to announce two updates regarding the ISG conference next year. The first is that selected papers will be published as full articles in a special issue of Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing (MBEC) following the conference. The second is that the ISB has kindly agreed to award a number of travel grants for students wanting to attend technical group meetings next year. For details of this scheme, see the ISB website.

Dates for ISG 2012

We are pleased to announce that the dates for the 2012 Conference of the ISG have been set. The meeting will take place from the 22nd to the 24th August 2012 at Abersytwyth University in Wales, UK. Details on the call for papers and other important dates will follow in due course.

ISG 2012

9th Conference of the International Shoulder Group

22 - 24 August 2012

We are pleased to announce that the 2012 conference of the International Shoulder Group will be hosted by Aberystwyth University's Department of Sport and Exercise Science, UK. The department was founded in 2002 and has since grown to provide science education for around 250 students. Members of staff in the department conduct research across the disciplines of biomechanics, physiology and psychology. Research areas are roughly divided into two themes: Physical Activity in Ageing, Rehabilitation and Health, and Sport and Exercise Performance.

The meeting will immediately follow the UK Hand and Wrist Biomechanics meeting that also takes place in Aberystwyth this year. There will be a joint reception for the two groups on the evening of the 22nd.

  • Abstract submission deadline: 21 March 2012
  • Notification of acceptance: 18 April 2012
  • Early registration deadline: 11 July 2012

 

Abstract Submission

Abstracts in all areas of shoulder and elbow biomechanics are of interest including basic science, engineering, sport and clinical science. All accepted abstracts will be published in the conference proceedings. Abstracts may be accepted for platform or poster presentation.

Papers should be 2 pages in length, formatted for A4 size paper, with 2cm margins all round. The font type should be Times or Times New Roman, and the font size should be 11pt.

The Title, Authors, and Affiliations should be center-justified at the top of the first page. Both title and authors should be in Title Case. We would like you to use first names and initials between brackets if needed. The remaining text should be single-spaced and in a two-column format. The text should be divided into sections such as Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgements, and References. Section titles are preceded by one blank line and are bold. Sections should start at the left margin and text should be fully justified.

Papers should be submitted to Ed Chadwick at edward.chadwick+isg@gmail.com as pdf files not exceeding 1MB.

 

Conference Proceedings

Selected papers will also be published as full articles in a special issue of Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing (MBEC) following the conference. Papers will appear on-line as soon as they are accepted. Two papers will receive awards as the best methodological and best clinical papers and will be published as open access papers. The deadline for submission of these full papers will be September 17.

Registration

Online registration will be offered nearer the time. The cost of registration is given below, with reduced rates for early registration, student delegates and members of ISB. Registration includes attendance, book of abstracts, refreshments and lunches on both days, opening reception and closing conference dinner. Rates shown are for registration before 11 July 2012. After this date, rates will increase by appoximately 15%.

Travel and Accomodation

  • Aberystwyth is situated on the west coast of Wales, and is served by regular bus and train links. Although there is no local airport, there is a direct train link to Birmingham International Airport (BHX).

  • Accomodation will be offered in a choice of town hotels or in university quarters.
