Dear Friends,

It is with great pleasure that I can inform you that the international journal "Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing" (Springer) has just published a Special Issue on Shoulder Biomechanics (Vol. 47, No. 5), gathering some of the works presented at our last meeting in Bologna. Among the papers,

Blana D et al "Combined feedforward and feedback control of a redundant, non-linear, dynamic musculoskeletal system"

and

Steenbrink F et al "Arm load magnitude affects selective shoulder muscle activation"

have been awarded with the two Young Investigator Awards sponsored by the Biomedical Engineering Group of the University of Bologna and Springer Verlag, and are "Open Access".

Kindest Regards,

Andrea G. Cutti

The ISG Constitution distributed after the Bologna meeting has been accepted by the members. The result was unanimous, albeit with a rather low turnout (12-0!). The document can be found here.

MBEC issue dedicated to ISG 2008 - Springer & U.S. NIH

Dear Friends,

In case:

  1. your research activity has been financed by U.S. NIH, and
  2. you are about to submit a paper for the issue of Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing (MBEC) dedicated to the conference

you may be interested to know the position of Springer regarding the NIH request to deposit the final manuscript of your journal articles in PubMed Central (http://publicaccess.nih.gov/).

Here (pdf) you can find the details of Springer’s position, which appears very positive, with two possible options!

Kind Regards,

Andrea G. Cutti

ISG 2008 Conference Announcement

Posted on behalf of Andrea Cutti:

Following the decision of the Board, it is a great pleasure for me to announce that the next meeting of the ISG will be held in Bologna (Italy), hosted by the Motion Analysis Laboratory of the INAIL Prosthesis Centre, in the framework of the StartER project.

The meeting will last two days and it is preliminarily scheduled for the first half of July 2008. The specific date will be chosen in order to: 1) easily combine the participation to the meeting with the participation to the meeting of the European Society of Biomechanics (6-9 July, Lucerne, Switzerland); 2) to continue the visit to Italy after the two days of work. To this regard, an original program is under development for the accompanying persons while staying in Bologna.

Special registration fees will be reserved for ISB members and students. In order to have all you coming to Bologna hosted in the same hotel where we are organizing the conference (Bologna downtown), discounted rates for rooms will be available and even cheaper for students.

With the help of the ISG Board it is our intention to have a selection of abstracts published in an international journal. Further details will follow in the next few months on this web-site. If you want to stay up-to-date, send an email to isg2008@inail-starter.org.

Website Update

The ISG website has been update with new functionality to allow users to more easily keep track of new content. You can now be notified of all new postings and/or comments to the website by email. I have enabled this for all current users and it will be the default for new users. By default you will be notified of new items but not new comments on existing items. If you wish to change your notification settings, log in to your account and go to 'My account' --> 'My notification settings' and select your desired options.

In addition, you can choose to be notified of new comments on existing items by clicking the 'subscribe' link at the end of each posting. A list of the items you are currently subscribed to can be seen by clicking on the 'My subscriptions' link.

Finally, you can still use RSS to keep track of new content by subscribing to http://internationalshouldergroup.org/node/feed.

Special Topics at ISB 2007

The ISB has invited me to organise a special topic on the Upper Extremity for ISB 2007. A topic can consist of maximally four sessions of up to six papers each. Deadline for submission for the topic and sessions is 15-2-2007. I have not yet decided yet on the specific topic and separate sessions. I am considering the topic "Upper extremity: measurements, models and motor control".

Should you want to go to Taipei and also would like to participate in a session, could you please let me know and possibly inform me on what you are considering for presentation?
